A head porter, Stephen Owusu, has been hauled before the Adabraka District Court for allegedly stealing two mobile phones while people were filming a fire outbreak at Cable and Wireless, Darkuman.
Prosecutors say the incident happened at about 5:00pm on 4 February 2026, when a crowd gathered to watch and record the fire. Owusu allegedly went there pretending he was helping victims, but instead snatched two phones and passed them to an alleged accomplice who ran away.
Owusu is facing two counts of stealing—an iPhone 12 valued at GH¢2,900 and a Samsung Galaxy valued at GH¢1,200. He pleaded not guilty.
The court granted him bail of GH¢2,000 with two sureties, and ordered him to return on 17 February 2026.
Chief Inspector Apeweh Achana told the court the complainants are Bismark Osei, a driver’s mate, and Emmanuel Badu, an auto electrician apprentice.
The prosecution said the complainants raised an alarm after the phones were taken, and police officers at the scene arrested Owusu and handed him over to the Darkuman Police Station.
In a caution statement, Owusu allegedly admitted taking Emmanuel Badu’s phone but denied stealing Bismark Osei’s. Police say he has not helped them retrieve the phones from the suspected accomplice.
