Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno has moved swiftly to the Savannah Region following violent communal clashes that left at least five people dead and several others injured.

A high-level delegation from the National Police Headquarters is meeting with chiefs, opinion leaders, and local representatives to discuss immediate and long-term steps for restoring peace in Gbiniyiri, Giniri, Sawla, and neighbouring communities.

The clashes erupted on Sunday, August 24, in Gbiniyiri, sparked by a land dispute.

Casualties: Five confirmed dead.

Injuries: Six others wounded, with three said to be in critical condition.

The violence has heightened tensions in the region, raising fears of further reprisal attacks if swift action is not taken.

Security reinforcements, including personnel from the Ghana Armed Forces and other agencies, have already been dispatched. Their presence aims to stabilise the area while investigations into the cause of the clashes continue.

The IGP’s visit signals the government’s commitment to addressing the conflict directly and ensuring security forces are fully engaged in preventing escalation.
