In addition to the jail term, the court, presided over by Mr. Charles Owusu Nsiah, imposed a GH¢1,200 fine on Godden. Failure to pay the fine would result in a three-month prison sentence with hard labor.

A 21-year-old illegal miner, Kwadwo Asenso Godden, has been sentenced by the Tarkwa District Court One to a day in prison for stealing a gold detector machine valued at GH¢13,000.

In addition to the jail term, the court, presided over by Mr. Charles Owusu Nsiah, imposed a GH¢1,200 fine on Godden. Failure to pay the fine would result in a three-month prison sentence with hard labor.

Godden pleaded guilty to charges of unlawful entry and theft.

Presenting the case, Police Sergeant Enoch Assan-Donkoh stated that the complainant, Rambow Benjamin, lived in Atwereboanda, a town within the Prestea Huni-Valley Municipality, where the convict also resided.

According to the prosecution, Benjamin stored his gold detector machine in his room after work. However, on October 20, 2024, he discovered it had been stolen.

Following his inquiries, Benjamin received information implicating Godden in the theft. He subsequently reported the matter to the police, leading to the suspect’s arrest.

During interrogation, Godden admitted to stealing the machine and directed authorities to an abandoned, unfinished building in Atwereboanda where he had hidden it. The police successfully recovered the stolen device.
