The suspect, Emmanuel Akanpatiba, was taken into custody on June 24 after a Madina resident reported that his red Royal motorbike had been stolen overnight.

Police in Accra have arrested a man believed to be at the center of a growing motorbike theft ring that has plagued several neighborhoods in recent weeks.

The suspect, Emmanuel Akanpatiba, was taken into custody on June 24 after a Madina resident reported that his red Royal motorbike had been stolen overnight.

Acting swiftly on intelligence, police tracked the missing bike to Akanpatiba, who later confessed to the crime during questioning.

He also named an accomplice, Israel Fredrick Lomotey, who remains on the run.

Further investigations have revealed a broader syndicate responsible for at least 12 reported thefts across Madina, Adenta, Lapaz, and Teshie. Akanpatiba admitted that the stolen bikes were sold at the Agbogbloshie Onion Market to three known buyers—Nurudeen, Ali, and Inusah.

The suspect detailed how he broke the steering locks of the bikes before moving them for sale. Depending on the registration year, the bikes fetched between GH¢2,000 and GH¢3,000.

Authorities say they are working to track down the other culprits and recover additional stolen bikes. Meanwhile, the police are advising the public to take extra precautions when securing their motorcycles and to report any suspicious behavior promptly.
