A 22-year-old man, identified only as Kwame, has been remanded into custody by a Koforidua court for allegedly robbing and raping a 25-year-old nurse performing her National Service.
According to police, the victim had been living in a rented room within the suspect’s family home for several months. On the day of the incident, Kwame allegedly lured her out of the house under the pretext that someone wanted to see her near the Yiadom Hwedie Palace.
While she was away, he disguised himself with a change of clothes and a mask, then broke into her room.
When the nurse returned, Kwame allegedly pulled a knife, demanding money. Fearing for her life, she handed over more than GH¢1,000 in cash. He reportedly demanded a mobile money transfer as well, but her account had no funds.
The prosecution said Kwame then ordered her to undress and, at knifepoint, sexually assaulted her before fleeing. The victim recognised him despite his disguise and reported the matter to the police.
Kwame later appeared at the station with his father, seeking forgiveness, but was arrested on the spot. Upon seeing him, the visibly shaken victim went into shock and struck him several times in distress.
A medical examination confirmed the assault, leading to charges of rape, robbery, threat of death, and threat of causing harm. The court has remanded him while investigations continue
