The court, presided over by Jephthah Appau, did not take his plea because investigations have not been completed.

A suspected narcotics case against a 35-year-old trader has been adjourned as police await a forensic report on substances allegedly found in his possession.

Prince Danku, who lives at Atwima-Koforidua, was remanded into police custody by the Kwadaso Circuit Court in the Ashanti Region.

He is expected back in court on June 18, 2026.

The court, presided over by Jephthah Appau, did not take his plea because investigations have not been completed.

Police say the case began on May 29, 2026, when officers from the Drug Law Enforcement Unit in Kumasi went to a drinking spot called Gye Nyame at Koforidua.

The officers arrested Danku at about 1:00pm.

According to Chief Inspector David Opoku Kwabi, a search later uncovered nine black, rocky, ball-like substances suspected to be narcotic drugs.

The items were allegedly hidden in a raincoat.

The prosecution said Danku, in his caution statement, claimed ownership of the substances.

He allegedly told investigators that he bought them for GH¢1,300 from an unidentified young man in Ho in the Volta Region.

He also allegedly said the substances were meant for his personal use.

The court heard that the suspected narcotics were sealed, labelled and packaged in the presence of the accused and an independent witness.

They have since been forwarded to the Police Forensic Laboratory in Accra for examination.

Police say the outcome of the laboratory analysis will guide the next stage of investigations.
