An Accra Circuit Court has handed a 24-month prison sentence to Thomas Agbeko, a labourer, for breaking into a warehouse and stealing an unregistered Peugeot motorbike worth GH¢20,000 from his neighbour.
The court, presided over by Mrs. Susana Eduful, convicted him on charges of causing unlawful damage, unlawful entry, and stealing. The sentences will run concurrently. His alleged accomplice, identified only as Solomon, remains at large.
According to the prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Ebenezer Teye-Okuffo, the complainant, Madam Betty Agyeman, a trader at Kanda-Accra, had imported secondhand goods from Italy in August 2024. Agbeko, who lived nearby, was one of the labourers hired to offload the goods into her warehouse and was later asked to weed around the premises.
During this time, Madam Agyeman directed him to push the Peugeot motorbike into the warehouse for safekeeping.
However, on August 10, 2025, Agbeko allegedly confided in a friend, asking him to help hot-wire the bike so they could steal it. The friend refused and warned him against it.
Eight days later, on August 18, the complainant reported her bike stolen. Suspicion immediately fell on Agbeko, who was arrested. Though he initially denied involvement, he later confessed in the presence of witnesses to breaking the GH¢1,000 lock on the warehouse and stealing the bike with Solomon.
Agbeko told police he had taken the stolen motorbike to Agbogbloshie-Zongo Junction to be sold but refused to disclose the buyer’s identity.
Following investigations, he was arraigned and convicted.
