A district court at Toase in Ghana’s Ashanti Region has remanded a 25-year-old labourer into prison custody over allegations that he threatened to kill his mother during a dispute at their home.
Dauda Bediako, also known as Dauda Abdulai, has been charged with threat of death and pleaded not guilty. He is due to return to court on 27 January 2026. The case is being heard by Robert Addo.
Police Detective Chief Inspector Ntim Boadu told the court that the complainant, Mariama Haruna, lives with the accused at Nkawie New Site in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality.
Prosecutors say the incident occurred on 5 January 2026 at around midday, after the accused allegedly harvested two bunches of plantain from his mother’s garden.
When she confronted him and demanded the produce back, the court heard that he became aggressive, picked up a cutlass and threatened to kill her if she tried to retrieve it.
The complainant is said to have fled for safety and later reported the matter to the Nkawie Police.
The accused was subsequently arrested but denied the allegation in a caution statement. Police say he was charged after investigations and has now been put before the court.
