A 23-year-old student, Ohemaa Serwaa Abigail Owusu Ansah, has been granted bail by the Adenta Circuit Court following allegations that she conspired with two other individuals to steal GH¢1.5 million from the residence of Bishop Daniel Obinim, founder of the International Godsway Church.
The accused is facing a charge of conspiracy to commit a crime, namely theft, in connection with the alleged disappearance of the money from a safe at the Bishop's Lakeside residence in Accra.
The court admitted her to bail with two sureties, one of whom must be justified with landed property.
Her plea was not taken, and she is expected to return to court on October 29, 2026.
How the GH¢1.5 million allegedly went missing
Presenting the facts, Chief Inspector Maxwell Lanyo told the court that Bishop Obinim and the accused were friends.
According to the prosecution, Owusu Ansah visited the Bishop at his residence on October 13, 2026, where the two spent some time together in his room.
During their interaction, Bishop Obinim reportedly left the house for church, leaving the accused at the residence.
The following morning, at approximately 7 a.m., the Bishop discovered that his safe had been forced open and GH¢1.5 million was missing.
Suspicious of the circumstances surrounding the disappearance of the money, he confronted the accused.
The prosecution alleged that Owusu Ansah subsequently disclosed that she had contacted a worker employed by her father, identified only as Owusu, who arranged for two young men to visit the residence.
According to the prosecution's account, the accused allowed the two individuals into Bishop Obinim's room and directed them to where the safe was located.
The men allegedly broke into the safe, removed the money and left the premises.
Accused allegedly admits involvement during investigations
The prosecution further told the court that Owusu Ansah was arrested on October 16, 2026, at about 2 p.m. and taken to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters for questioning.
During investigations, she allegedly admitted in her caution statement that she had invited the two men to Bishop Obinim's residence to break into the safe and take the money.
The alleged admission forms part of the prosecution's account and has not been determined by the court.
Following her arrest and subsequent appearance before the Adenta Circuit Court, the accused was granted bail subject to the conditions imposed by the court.
The prosecution indicated that investigations into the alleged theft were ongoing.
The matter has been adjourned to October 29, 2026, for further proceedings.
