A police officer, only identified as Sammy, is recovering at the Police Hospital after being stabbed by a suspected criminal during a shocking early morning attack at Lower McCarthy Hill in Accra.
The incident occurred as Sammy was escorting his children to school. According to eyewitnesses, a man known in the area for criminal activity ambushed him with a knife.
In a desperate bid to defend himself and protect his children, the officer reportedly fired multiple close-range shots at the assailant. Strangely, none of the bullets struck the target. Locals claim the suspect had spiritually fortified himself with “black power,” commonly referred to as juju.
A violent struggle followed when the suspect tried to wrestle the pistol from the officer. During the scuffle, the suspect stabbed Sammy in the right rib before fleeing the scene.
Quartey, a resident who witnessed the attack, said the suspect lives nearby with his mother and is notorious for disturbing the peace. “He often moves around with boys on motorbikes, harassing people,” he told reporters.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident. Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs for the Accra Regional Police Command, confirmed the attack and said efforts are underway to apprehend the suspect.
