Police in the Central Region have arrested a 40-year-old man after a widely shared video appeared to show him attacking his girlfriend in Cape Coast.

The suspect, Samuel Bills Acquah, was taken into custody after officers responded to a complaint about an alleged assault in Bakano, a community within the city.

In a statement issued on Sunday, 29 March, the police said the report was received on Friday, 27 March, at about 9:30pm. The complaint indicated that the suspect had physically assaulted the 30-year-old woman, with whom he is said to have a child.

Police said officers moved quickly to the area after receiving the report and arrested Mr Acquah at the scene. He remains in custody and is assisting with investigations.

The Central Regional Police Command said he is expected to be put before the court on 30 March 2026.

The case has drawn wide public attention after footage of the alleged assault spread online, triggering concern over domestic abuse and renewed calls for justice.

Police have urged the public to avoid circulating unverified claims about the matter, saying investigations are ongoing and will be handled in line with the law.
