Police say the suspect, Ebenezer Frimpong, is in custody after allegedly taking off with the vehicle from Nkawie Market.

A suspected attempt to steal a police armoured vehicle in broad daylight has ended in the arrest of a young man in the Ashanti Region.

Police say the suspect, Ebenezer Frimpong, is in custody after allegedly taking off with the vehicle from Nkawie Market.

The incident is said to have happened after the police driver briefly left the vehicle to buy medication, reportedly leaving the engine still running. Investigators believe Frimpong used that moment to get into the armoured vehicle and drive away.

The response was immediate.

A nearby patrol team is reported to have launched a pursuit, which later drew in a SWAT unit. The chase came to an end at Mim, near Abuakwa in the Kumasi area, where officers intercepted the vehicle and arrested the suspect.

Police have since recovered and secured the armoured vehicle. Frimpong remains in custody as investigations continue.
