A Tarkwa District Court has sentenced 25-year-old motorbike mechanic, Godfred Atta Hagan, to six months’ imprisonment with hard labour for stealing a Royal Motorbike valued at GH¢13,000.
Hagan pleaded guilty and was convicted on his own plea by the court presided over by Charles Owusu Nsiah.
Prosecutor Sergeant Enoch Assan-Donkoh told the court that the complainant, Isaac Mensah Mbeah, a delivery rider from Tamso, parked his motorbike (registration M-25-WT278) at his shop on April 16, 2025, after close of work. Later that night, around 1:00 am, he discovered it had been stolen.
A witness reported seeing Hagan riding off with the motorbike, prompting Mbeah to complain with Tarkwa police. Hagan went into hiding but was eventually arrested on May 11, 2025, at a friend’s house after a tip-off.
During interrogation, he led officers to the residence of another accomplice, known only as “Gucci,” who remains at large. The stolen motorbike was recovered from the premises.
The court, in delivering its ruling, sentenced Hagan to prison, stressing the need for the punishment to serve as a deterrent to others.
