Eyewitness accounts indicate that a neighbour saw the suspect leaving his house with the suspicious bag and raised an alarm.

The peaceful community of Assin Bereku, the district capital of Assin North, was plunged into chaos on Tuesday morning when a man in his 30s, identified only as Asuo, was lynched by residents after being allegedly found with a blood-stained bag containing what appeared to be a human hand.

Eyewitness accounts indicate that a neighbour saw the suspect leaving his house with the suspicious bag and raised an alarm. The commotion coincided with the frantic search by a local family for their missing nine-year-old son, intensifying public outrage.

When some residents linked the two incidents, tempers flared, and an enraged crowd descended on the suspect, beating him to death before the police could intervene.

Law enforcement officers later arrived at the scene to find that the suspect had already died from mob assault. A subsequent search of his residence uncovered bloodied knives and stained bedsheets, deepening the mystery surrounding the alleged crime.

Both the body of the suspect and that of the deceased child have been deposited at the Assin Fosu Government Hospital morgue as investigations continue.

Police have since launched a full-scale inquiry into the alleged killing and the circumstances that led to the mob action.

Reacting to the incident, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Assin North, Mr. Sylvester Amakye, visited the scene and condemned the mob action in the strongest terms.

Mr. Amakye urged the youth to exercise restraint and allow law enforcement agencies to handle criminal matters through due process.
