Ghanaian police have arrested a 26-year-old Nigerian man accused of killing a woman and her daughter in Nigeria before fleeing across the border.
Victor Benjamin Fejeminrokum was picked up during an intelligence-led operation at Akyem Wenchi, near Akwatia, after officers intercepted a widely circulating video alleging his involvement in the double murder.
The victims were reported to include a woman working with Nigeria’s Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and her young daughter in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
According to a statement from Ghana’s Eastern South Regional Police Command, Fejeminrokum had been declared wanted by Nigerian authorities and is believed to have fled to Ghana to hide among acquaintances.
Deputy Superintendent of Police David Fianko-Okyere, the regional spokesperson, said officers acted swiftly once intelligence confirmed the suspect’s location.
Fejeminrokum is being held in custody while arrangements are made to formally hand him over to Nigerian authorities.
Police have urged residents to remain alert and report suspicious behaviour in their communities.
The Regional Command says it will sustain security operations to clamp down on criminal networks operating within its jurisdiction.
