The victim, Mutala Yayaa, a trader and sub-chief of Weija, was ambushed by the accused and their accomplices after being questioned about his “authority” to move around the area with his aides.

The Adabraka District Court has remanded nine men into police custody after they allegedly launched a violent attack on a sub-chief of Weija, leaving him with multiple cutlass, axe, and scissor wounds.

According to police reports, the incident occurred on September 10, 2025, at Darkuman Cable in Accra. The victim, Mutala Yayaa, a trader and sub-chief of Weija, was ambushed by the accused and their accomplices after being questioned about his “authority” to move around the area with his aides. When he resisted their demands to sit down, the group allegedly pounced on him with dangerous weapons, inflicting severe injuries.

Those charged include:

Bernard Tagoe alias Asa Sese (31, unemployed)

Eric Nii Martey (28, mechanic apprentice)

Michael Lokko (22, bookman)

Felix Adu Mensah (22, mechanic apprentice)

Habib Gusamu (31, painter)

Solomon Assan (29, driver)

Kwame Khalid (29, tiler)

Jacob Addy (25, driver’s mate)

Gideon Arthur (21, mechanic apprentice)

Four other accomplices remain at large.

They face charges of conspiracy to commit crime and causing harm with offensive weapons. Presiding Judge Mrs. Abena Owusu Omenyo withheld their pleas as investigations continue.

Prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Apeweh Achana, said police are pursuing the remaining suspects. The case has been handed over to the Regional Criminal Investigations Department (CID) for further inquiry.

The complainant was treated at a hospital after receiving a medical form from the police. Investigators later arrested the nine accused at their hideout, though each denied the allegations in their caution statements.
