The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has arrested Osman Abdul Majeed for unlawful possession of a foreign firearm and ammunition during a routine checkpoint operation near Obuasi.

Majeed was apprehended on July 29, 2025, at the Tweapease Police Barrier while traveling on a Toyota minibus from Kumasi to Tarkwa. According to a police statement, officers discovered an unregistered Bruni Model 92 pistol with three live 9mm rounds concealed in his backpack.

During questioning, Majeed claimed the firearm was given to him in Tamale by a man named Awal, who directed him to deliver it to someone in Tarkwa. He was unable to provide any legal documentation authorizing him to possess or transport the weapon.

The suspect is currently in custody and is expected to be arraigned in court. Meanwhile, investigations are underway to determine the source of the weapon and apprehend all individuals connected to the case.
