The Odumase-Krobo Circuit Court has sentenced 27-year-old driver Nartey Tetteh Adjei to five years’ imprisonment after he attacked a farmer with a cutlass during a dispute over a stray piglet.
Prosecutors told the court that the incident occurred on August 9, 2025, at Kpongunor in the Eastern Region. The complainant, Emmanuel Ofoe, an animal farmer, discovered one of his piglets had strayed into Adjei’s backyard. While retrieving it, he saw Adjei hurl a stone at the piglet, causing injury.
Although Adjei initially apologized and promised to resolve the matter, tensions flared when Ofoe later confronted him about the piglet’s worsening condition. Enraged, Adjei went into his room, returned with a cutlass, and struck the farmer on the head and left arm.
The injured farmer managed to escape and, with the help of his sister, reported the attack to the police. He received treatment at a local clinic before being referred to the Regional Hospital.
Chief Inspector John Brahene said Adjei was later arrested and admitted to the offense during interrogation. He was charged with causing harm under Section 69 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29). The court handed down the custodial sentence to serve as a deterrent to others.
Police have since reminded the public to resolve disputes through lawful means rather than resorting to violence.
