Online fraud, cyberbullying, and online blackmail are Ghana’s most reported cybercrimes in 2025, according to new data released by the Cyber Security Authority (CSA).
Between January and September 2025, the country recorded 3,286 cybercrime-related complaints, reflecting a significant rise in digital criminal activities across mobile money platforms, social media, and online financial networks.
Breakdown of Reported Cases (Jan–Sept 2025)
| Cybercrime Category | No. of Cases | Share of Total |
|---|---|---|
| Online Fraud | 1,200 | ~36.5% |
| Cyberbullying | 738 | |
| Online Blackmail | 507 | |
| Unauthorised Access | 390 | |

Online fraud remains the biggest threat, driven largely by mobile money scams, fake investment schemes, Ponzi platforms, and phishing attacks targeting unsuspecting users.
Cyberbullying, which disproportionately affects women, youth, and students, is now the second-highest reported cybercrime.
Blackmail scams, often involving extortion through leaked private content, are increasingly being used to target individuals via social media.
Data breaches and unauthorized account access continue to rise as more Ghanaians digitize sensitive information.
The CSA links the increase in cases to heightened digital usage amid weak cybersecurity practices and low awareness of online safety protocols.
The Authority is urging citizens to:
Verify all online financial transactions
Avoid sharing personal data with unverified platforms
Use strong and frequently updated passwords
Report suspicious digital activity immediately
It also announced intensified national awareness campaigns, stronger law enforcement collaboration, and enhanced cyber incident reporting mechanisms.
