The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has asked the High Court in Accra to permit the transfer of an ongoing extortion case involving former National Petroleum Authority (NPA) Chief Executive Dr Mustapha Hamid and 10 co-accused persons.
The request was made before Criminal Court 3 on Thursday, after prosecutors disclosed that a new charge sheet had been filed nearly a month earlier, on 17 October, and subsequently assigned to Criminal Court 4 (CC4).
Prosecutors told the court that CC4 has already scheduled the new matter for 9 December 2025. They asked the presiding judge to align the timelines to avoid procedural overlap.
“To ensure a seamless transition, we respectfully request that this court grants the same date—9 December—on which we will formally withdraw and proceed before Court 4,” the prosecution submitted.
Lawyer for the accused persons, Joseph Kpemka, said the defence team had no opposition to the application.
Following the brief exchanges, the presiding judge adjourned proceedings to 9 December at 10:00 a.m., paving the way for the expected withdrawal and re-filing of the case before the new court.
