Joseph Donkor (35) is facing a charge of unlawful damage to a tombstone said to belong to the Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly, while Eric Tawiah Annang (62) has been charged with abetment.

An Accra district court has granted GH¢30,000 bail each to two men accused of damaging a tombstone at the Osu Cemetery.

Joseph Donkor (35) is facing a charge of unlawful damage to a tombstone said to belong to the Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly, while Eric Tawiah Annang (62) has been charged with abetment. Both pleaded not guilty.

They are expected back in court on 24 March 2026. Police say a third suspect is still on the run.

Prosecutor Chief Inspector Apewah Achana said the complainant is the head of the Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly Task Force.

He told the court that on 8 February 2026, around 8:00am, the cemetery sexton and another person went on patrol after reports of illegal grave digging.

During the patrol, the witness heard noise inside the cemetery and went to check. Police say the witness found Donkor and others trying to open a grave after allegedly damaging a tombstone.

The witness reportedly ordered them to stop and asked them to follow him to his office.

On the way, police say Annang confronted the witness and claimed he had assigned the job to Donkor and the other man because he had a permit.

When the task force arrived, the other suspects fled, but Annang and Donkor were arrested and sent to the Osu Police Station for investigations.

Police told the court that during investigations, the two men admitted the offences and were later charged.
