In a statement signed by DSP John Nchor, the Oti Regional Police Public Affairs Officer, the command said the operations were carried out between 13 and 15 February at different locations in the region.

Police in the Oti Region say three separate intelligence-led operations have led to the seizure of 1,696 compressed parcels of suspected narcotics and the arrest of seven people.

In a statement signed by DSP John Nchor, the Oti Regional Police Public Affairs Officer, the command said the operations were carried out between 13 and 15 February at different locations in the region.

The first arrest was made on 13 February on the Lekanti Kute road, where officers stopped a Hyundai Atos taxi with registration VR 188-16.

A search, police said, uncovered 48 parcels of suspected Indian hemp. The driver, Emmanuel Yao (40), and his mate, Felix Emulator, were arrested.

Police said a second operation on 14 February targeted a spot at Tsikata near Ahamansu.

Officers recovered 166 compressed parcels wrapped in yellow masking tape, stored in three bags and three sacks. Three suspects were arrested, but a fourth person, Korsi Akpavi, escaped, police said.

The third operation, on 15 February, involved a Benz cargo truck with registration GS 3831-09, intercepted at Bodada.

Police said a modified hidden compartment in the truck was opened, revealing 1,482 parcels of suspected Indian hemp. The driver, Justice Nelson Amrado, and a passenger, Yussif Onaneye (25), were arrested.

According to the statement, Amrado allegedly attempted to bribe officers with GH¢80,000, but police said the offer was rejected.

Police say efforts are ongoing to arrest Korsi Akpavi, and the command is urging the public to share information to support crime prevention in the region.
