Kelvin Boateng received a three-year sentence for both unlawful entry and theft, with the sentences set to run concurrently.
During the hearing, Police Inspector Wisdom Alorwu informed the court, presided over by Christiana Eyiah-Donkor Cann, that the complainant, Dennis Appau, is a graphic designer based in La, Accra. Boateng, who worked as a painter, resided in Agbogbloshie.
According to the prosecution, the incident took place on December 31, 2024, around 10:30 a.m. While Appau and his colleagues were busy in the office, Boateng scaled the fence and sneaked into one of the rooms, where he stole an HP laptop before fleeing.
A witness spotted him carrying the stolen device and raised an alarm. In an attempt to evade capture, Boateng hid the laptop in an unfinished building nearby. However, Appau and others quickly organized a search, eventually locating Boateng and retrieving the stolen laptop.
He was apprehended and handed over to the police for further investigation. During questioning, Boateng confessed to the crime, leading to his prosecution and subsequent conviction.
