The quiet farming town of Daboasi in the Western Region has been thrown into mourning after a long-serving palm wine tapper, identified only as Kwofie, was killed in a violent altercation with a labourer he had hired.

The incident occurred on Monday, August 25, 2025, around 1 p.m. on the victim’s farm. According to eyewitness accounts, the suspect — a man in his early 40s popularly known in the area as “Akuffu Addo” — confronted Kwofie over a GHC200 payment for a weeding job.

Community sources say the palm wine tapper had reportedly postponed payment on three different occasions, a delay that allegedly enraged the suspect and led to the fatal confrontation. Police believe the assailant may have been under the influence of narcotics at the time of the attack.

The suspect, who is not a native of Daboasi but settled there in search of work, was apprehended by residents shortly after the incident and handed over to the police. Assembly Member Seth Cudjoe confirmed his arrest, adding that the entire community was still grappling with the shock of the tragedy.

The killing has unsettled locals, with many youths gathering at the police station demanding swift justice. Residents described the incident as unprecedented, noting that it was the first time such violence had occurred in their community.

The body of the deceased has been taken into police custody as investigations continue.
