The accused, 38-year-old phone repairer Frederick Bortey, is said to have slashed the neck of Olamide Adcoye on 29 November 2025 after she refused his offer of GH¢50 in exchange for sex.

A trader has sustained serious injuries to her throat after an alleged razor attack in her bedroom by a man who had tried to negotiate sex with her for GH¢50, a court in Accra has heard.

The accused, 38-year-old phone repairer Frederick Bortey, is said to have slashed the neck of Olamide Adcoye on 29 November 2025 after she refused his offer of GH¢50 in exchange for sex.

Prosecutors told Circuit Court 8 in Accra, presided over by His Honour Jojo Amoah Hagan, that Bortey, who lives at La Apapa, went to the complainant’s home at about 9:30 a.m. while she was asleep.

A friend reportedly phoned Ms Adcoye to alert her that someone was at her door. She then allowed Bortey, described as a friend, into the room, and the pair sat on her bed to talk.

During the conversation, the court heard, Bortey requested sex. The complainant is said to have initially demanded GH¢500, later reducing the amount to GH¢400.

Unable to pay, the accused allegedly offered GH¢50, which Ms Adcoye rejected.

Prosecutors say Bortey then pulled a razor blade from his pocket and cut her throat in anger over her refusal. She screamed for help and the accused fled.

A police report was subsequently lodged, leading to his arrest.

Bortey has been charged with causing harm. He pleaded guilty when he was arraigned and was granted bail of GH¢50,000 with two sureties, one of whom must be justified.

The case has been adjourned to 15 January 2026.

During interrogation, investigators say the accused admitted the offence but claimed that, although the complainant eventually accepted his GH¢50 offer, she still refused to have sex with him.
