The Accra Regional Police Command has arrested three men for allegedly manufacturing and possessing locally made pistols in Shiashi, a suburb of Accra.
The suspects — Patrick Gyimah, 24, a dispatch rider from Bawaleshie; Emmanuel Osei Yeboah, 27, an electrical welder from Adenta Commando; and Charles Somuah, 29, a private security guard from Ogbojo — were picked up in separate operations between August 7 and 8, 2025.
Police say Gyimah was first spotted under suspicious circumstances during a routine patrol, and a search revealed a locally manufactured pistol concealed in his pocket. Investigations linked the weapon to Yeboah and Somuah, who had allegedly sold it to Gyimah for GH₵2,000, with GH₵800 paid upfront.
A follow-up operation at Yeboah’s residence uncovered two more locally made pistols, a toy pistol, a BB 12-bore cartridge, and a jackknife. Yeboah reportedly admitted to fabricating and selling one of the guns to Gyimah.
All three have been charged with manufacturing firearms without authority, possession of firearms without authority, and abetment to manufacturing firearms without authority under the Arms and Ammunition Act, 1972 (NRCD 9). They pleaded not guilty and were remanded to reappear on August 22, 2025.
The Regional Police Commander warned that the manufacture, sale, and possession of illegal firearms carry severe legal consequences and urged the public to report suspicious activities promptly.
