The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has revealed that eight suspects have been picked up in connection with the recent disturbances that marred the Ablekuma North by-election.
According to the IGP, the suspects are currently being processed and are expected to appear before court either Thursday or Friday. He emphasized that the police are committed to ensuring that justice is served.
The police chief also used the occasion to address public concerns regarding a police officer who assaulted a journalist during the by-election. Dispelling rumors of a transfer, he clarified that the officer had instead been interdicted.
“When an officer is interdicted, the uniform is taken away, and the person cannot return to duty. There is no truth in the claim that he has been transferred elsewhere,” the IGP explained.
Mr. Yohuno disclosed that the Police Professional Standards Bureau had completed its investigation into the officer’s misconduct and submitted its findings. He added that a service inquiry will be conducted, paving the way for disciplinary measures.
