The Ghana Police Service has arrested a man accused of using social media to threaten police and military personnel in a video that circulated widely online.

The suspect, identified as Opoku Emmanuel, was picked up at Jacobu in the Ashanti Region on Thursday, 7 May, in an operation involving the Inspector-General’s Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team and local police officers.

According to the police, he appeared masked in the video and made statements that allegedly encouraged violence against security personnel.

Investigators say the suspect warned officers not to attempt to arrest armed robbers and went further to threaten to kill any policeman who confronted him in such operations.

In a statement, the Police said Emmanuel is now in custody and assisting with investigations.

The service added that he will be put before the court.
