A 34-year-old taxi driver, Robert Kwabena Boamah, is in police custody following his arrest for the suspected murder of his longtime partner, 23-year-old Dorothy Owusu Annor, affectionately called Maa Abena. The incident occurred in Abuakwa, located in Ghana’s Ashanti Region.
According to the Ashanti Regional Police Command, Boamah was apprehended on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at a hideout in Namong, Offinso Municipality—three days after he allegedly went into hiding.
Investigators say Boamah picked up Dorothy from her family’s residence at Abuakwa on April 21. The two, believed to be heading out for a bread-baking appointment, never returned. Shortly after their departure, police received a distress call reporting the discovery of a young woman’s body near the Mighty Jesus Educational Complex in the Kwadaso Municipality.
Officers responded to the scene and identified the deceased as Dorothy Owusu Annor. She had sustained multiple stab wounds. Her mobile phone was later found in Boamah’s abandoned taxi, which had been left near the crime scene with the engine key still in the ignition.
DSP Godwin Ahianyo, the head of Public Affairs for the Ashanti Regional Police, confirmed that Boamah admitted to the killing during interrogation. He also disclosed that the suspect had attempted to end his own life but was rescued and treated at the Abuakwa Polyclinic.
Boamah has since been discharged and remains in custody. The police say he will be formally charged and brought before the court in the coming days.
