Three people have been arrested in connection with the killing of the Kusasi Chief in Asawase, police in the Ashanti South Region have said.
The suspects were named as Jamil Usman, also known as Babamu or Guru; Suleman Yasir Arafat, alias Obasanjo; and Ashiadu Sumbeida, also known as Eyeshadow.
Police say the three are expected to be transferred to the Ashanti Regional Police Command as investigations into the case continue.
Speaking at a media briefing in Bekwai on Tuesday, 17 March, the Ashanti South Regional Police Commander, DCOP Joseph Hammond Nyaaba, said one more suspect remains at large.
He identified that suspect as Illiasu, also known as Abodam, and appealed to the public to assist the police with information that could lead to his arrest.
The commander also disclosed that weapons were recovered during the operation.
According to him, officers retrieved two AK-47 rifles, one pump-action gun, two pistols and 44 rounds of .32 ammunition.
He said the recovery underlined the seriousness of the operation and reflected ongoing efforts to deal with violent crime in the area.
The killing under investigation dates back to July 2025.
DCOP Nyaaba thanked the Inspector-General of Police for his support and also commended officers involved in the operation for what he described as their professionalism and commitment.
He further acknowledged the role of the public, saying information provided by residents had been important in helping the police make the arrests.
