A woman has been arrested after a fire broke out at the Grace Mountain Chapel auditorium in Accra, the church associated with Alpha Hour founder Pastor Elvis Agyemang.

The incident happened on the night of Monday, 9 February, during a quiet time at the auditorium. Church officials say the suspect acted as if she was praying before starting the fire.

CCTV footage from the church allegedly shows the woman pouring petrol on chairs close to the altar and then setting them on fire.

The church’s security team intervened quickly and contained the flames before they spread. No injuries were reported, and the damage was described as limited.

Following the incident, Pastor Agyemang announced that all in-person prayer sessions at the auditorium have been suspended for now.

He added that the church has had other security scares in the past, including one last year when a woman allegedly poured powder on the altar, forcing restrictions around the area.

The suspect is in police custody as investigations continue. Police say they are trying to establish her motive and whether she acted alone or with others.

Alpha Hour is a daily one-hour prayer meeting that starts at 12:00 a.m. GMT and is streamed live on platforms including Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok and Zoom.
