The police prosecutors handling the case of the O’Reilly Senior High School student's murder have transferred the case file to the attorney general for further action.
Chief Inspector Paul Osei Adjei, leading the prosecution, informed the La District Court, presided over by Judge Adwoa Benaso Asumadu-Sakyi, of this update during yesterday's case hearing.
The Attorney-General is expected to prepare and submit a formal charge sheet, known as a bill of indictment, to the District Court.
This document outlines the allegations and will allow the court to begin the committal process. During this stage, the magistrate will assess whether the evidence is sufficient for the accused to face trial at the High Court on the charges recommended by the Attorney-General.
The accused, Godwin Mawuli, has been remanded in custody for another two weeks and is due to reappear in court on October 21. The presiding judge advised Mawuli to seek legal representation before the next hearing.
Meanwhile, the father of the victim has announced that his son’s burial will take place on October 18.
The victim, Edward Borketey Sackey, a general arts student, was allegedly killed by the accused following a dispute after an examination on campus.
