The arrest was announced in a police statement issued on Monday, May 11, and signed by Deputy Superintendent of Police Godwin Ahianyo, Head of the Public Affairs Unit of the Ashanti Regional Police Headquarters.

A police inspector in the Ashanti Region has been interdicted after he was linked to an alleged robbery attack on a mobile money vendor in Kumasi.

Police Inspector Bright Appiah Dankwah, who was stationed at the Asuoyeboah Police Station, was arrested by the Ashanti Regional Anti-Robbery Unit following intelligence-led operations.

The arrest was announced in a police statement issued on Monday, May 11, and signed by Deputy Superintendent of Police Godwin Ahianyo, Head of the Public Affairs Unit of the Ashanti Regional Police Headquarters.

According to the statement, officers searched the suspect’s residences after his arrest.

They allegedly retrieved a Bruni Mod. 92 gas pistol, ammunition and GH¢9,835 in cash.

The Ghana Police Service said Inspector Dankwah has been interdicted in line with its internal disciplinary procedures while investigations continue.

He was put before the Atasemanso Circuit Court on May 11, 2026.

The court remanded him into police custody, and he is expected to reappear on May 29, 2026.

The case has renewed concerns about the involvement of some security personnel in criminal incidents, especially attacks on mobile money vendors.

Mobile money operators across the country have repeatedly raised alarm over robberies targeting their businesses.

Some of these attacks have resulted in deaths and serious injuries, prompting calls for stronger protection and faster police response.

The police administration said it remains committed to discipline within the service.

It said any officer found to have engaged in criminal conduct would be made to face the full rigours of the law.
