Police in the Ashanti Region have launched a probe into a shooting incident that took place on Friday at Adventist Senior High School in Kumasi.

According to an official statement, early findings indicate that a 16-year-old student in his second year smuggled a locally made pistol—loaded with BB ammunition—onto school grounds.

Reports suggest the teenager intended to show the weapon to a fellow student, but it accidentally went off, injuring another student nearby.

The injured student was promptly taken to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for treatment and is currently in stable condition.

Authorities confirmed that the young suspect has been taken into custody. An empty cartridge was retrieved from the scene and is being held as evidence. During questioning, the student claimed he took the gun from his father’s bedroom without his father being aware.

Police are now working to trace and arrest the father as part of the ongoing investigation.
