A police officer has been interdicted for allegedly assaulting a motorist and for brandishing a gun on the Accra-Cape Coast road, a police statement has said.

The officer whose name was withheld is said to be a Sergeant with the Central Regional Police Command.

He is reported to have pulled out a gun in the middle of the road during confrontations with a colleague driver.

Videos of the incident went viral on social media.

The Police indicated that the said Sergeant lodged a complaint of assault, stating that he pulled out his pistol after he was attacked by a group of persons, one of whom was wielding a cutlass.

“Both parties are assisting police investigations. The Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) has also commenced investigation into the conduct of the police officer. Both the criminal investigation and the professional standards investigation will run concurrently,” the statement added.
