The Ghana police have opened an investigation into the shooting of a taxi driver at Tetegu, near Weija in Accra, in an incident involving a female officer.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Ghana Police Service said preliminary findings suggest the shooting followed a confrontation between the officer and the driver of a Hyundai i10 taxi.

The victim was taken to the Police Hospital for treatment but was pronounced dead on arrival, the statement said.

Police also said the officer was later hit by a vehicle as she tried to leave the scene. She sustained injuries to her head and both legs and remains in hospital receiving medical care.

Investigators said they recovered a magazine, one live 9mm round and one empty 9mm cartridge from the scene.

The police said enquiries are continuing and promised to update the public as the investigation progresses.
