The Bono Regional Police Command says an intelligence-led operation targeting suspected robbery gangs has led to the recovery of five firearms, after a gun battle left one suspect dead.
Police say they picked up intelligence on February 11, 2026 that a gang was preparing to attack traders along the Dormaa–Gonokrom highway. Surveillance teams were quickly deployed to block the planned robbery.
In the early hours of February 12, officers moving in near a parked motorbike reportedly came under fire from suspects hiding in nearby bushes. Police returned fire.
At daybreak, officers searched the area and found one male suspect dead, with an AK-47 rifle lying beside him.
A wider search later uncovered a sack containing more weapons and ammunition. Police say the haul included:
Two Baikal single-barrel guns
One pump-action gun
One Beretta pistol loaded with three rounds of 9mm ammunition
34 extra rounds of 9mm ammunition
Another AK-47 rifle loaded with 11 rounds, plus 10 extra rounds
39 BB cartridges
A dagger
A mobile phone
A Honda motorbike
A black mask
A talisman
Police say the body has been sent to the Police Hospital morgue for preservation, identification and autopsy.
