The Accra Regional Police Command has successfully rescued 16 victims of human trafficking in a targeted operation at Ngleshie Amanfro, near Accra.
According to a police statement issued on Thursday, July 24, 2025, the victims, 12 males and 4 females were discovered in a residential compound at Toptown. They are nationals of Côte d’Ivoire and Burkina Faso.
The operation was triggered by a complaint concerning the disappearance of 17-year-old Chaka Kante, an Ivorian who had been missing for nine months. He was allegedly lured into Ghana with the false promise of joining a football club. Acting on a tip, officers accompanied the complainant to the location, where they found Kante among the trafficked group.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the victims had been recruited by agents linked to Q-Net, a company already flagged in multiple West African countries for fraudulent job and travel schemes. Victims were promised lucrative job opportunities abroad—particularly in Europe—but ended up confined in Ghana under exploitative conditions.
The rescued individuals are currently being sheltered, and arrangements are underway to transfer them to the Ghana Immigration Service for profiling and eventual repatriation to their home countries.
The police have launched a manhunt for the perpetrators of the trafficking ring and urged the public, especially parents and guardians, to remain cautious about overseas employment offers that sound too good to be true.
