According to a police statement, the joint operation with the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) took place on September 18, 2025.

The Northeast Regional Police Command has carried out a major anti-narcotics bust at Gbintiri near Nalerigu, intercepting 1,195 boxes of Tramadol Hydrochloride 120mg, widely known as “Red,” and arresting six suspects.

According to a police statement, the joint operation with the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) took place on September 18, 2025. Two trucks, suspected of carrying illicit consignments, were stopped en route from Sankase in Togo to Gbintiri.

The suspects—Alhassan Braimah, Yakubu Muntaka, Abdulai Shakur, Mumuni Iddrisu, Mumuni Yakubu, and Moses Ayorik—were apprehended after a search revealed the concealed drugs in truck GR 1712-16.

Police investigations suggest that the consignment was intended for Moses Ayorik, who was expected to deliver it to another individual in Gushegu. During interrogation, the suspects reportedly admitted their roles in the smuggling network.

DSP Robert Anabik Anmain, spokesperson for the regional command, confirmed that all six are in custody assisting with investigations, while additional suspects linked to the operation are being pursued.

Authorities stressed that the seizure highlights their determination to dismantle drug trafficking syndicates, warning that restricted drugs like Tramadol pose a serious threat to public health and safety, particularly in northern Ghana.
