The Kwabenya Circuit Court has remanded a 40-year-old preacher, Godwin Asher, into police custody over charges of incest and causing harm to his 17-year-old biological daughter.
Asher, a mason by trade, denied the allegations. His counsel argued that the claims arose after the teenager went missing from home for several days and was later disciplined.
He insisted his client had raised the girl from childhood, never engaged in sexual abuse, and was willing to have her placed in the care of an uncle.
The prosecution opposed bail, noting that Asher still lived in the same house as the alleged victim. The court rejected the bail request and set the next hearing for August 25, 2025.
Prosecutors told the court the case began when a neighbor at Ashongman Estate noticed the girl bleeding from her hand on August 2. The teenager allegedly explained she was injured while fending off her father with a cutlass during a beating.
Police investigations later revealed allegations of sexual intercourse between Asher and his daughter, the most recent incident said to have occurred on July 30, 2025. The victim has since received medical attention, and inquiries are ongoing.
