The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), in collaboration with the Ghana Police Service, has destroyed large quantities of seized illicit drugs in the Savannah Region as part of a crackdown on drug abuse and trafficking.

The substances were confiscated during targeted enforcement operations, which led to the conviction of six individuals by the Damongo Circuit Court. Each was fined not less than 500 penalty units.

Savannah Regional Minister Salisu Be-Awuribe stated that the Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has intensified security measures to curb the menace.
“This is part of an ongoing exercise we have taken very seriously, and we are happy the court is giving these sanctions and ordering the destruction of these substances,” he noted.

Savannah Regional Commander of NACOC, Rashida Ewuntomah, said the Commission’s anti-drug efforts will be strengthened further with the planned establishment of district and municipal offices in the region.
