A 22-year-old security guard, Richmond Botwe, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison by the Adenta Circuit Court for attempting to rob a woman of her iPhone 14 in Nmai Dzorn, located in the Greater Accra Region.
The accused pleaded guilty to the attempted robbery, which took place on April 5, 2025. Botwe, who worked as a security officer at Adjiriganor, was said to have left his assigned post around 4:00 a.m., armed with a kitchen knife hidden in his trousers.
According to the prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Eric Abban, the victim, identified as Ms. Tosin Adesokan, a Nigerian hairstylist living at Ashalley Botwe School Junction, was attacked while returning to her apartment at Manfranco Apartment, near Nmai Dzorn School Junction.
Botwe followed the complainant and stabbed her in the back before forcibly taking her iPhone 14, valued at GHS15,000. Ms. Adesokan resisted and called for help, alerting a co-tenant who quickly intervened. The co-tenant managed to apprehend the assailant and handed him over to the Nmai Dzorn Police. The knife used in the attack was recovered during the arrest.
Although Botwe pleaded guilty, the court took note of his status as a young offender and his cooperation in not prolonging the trial. Despite this, he was handed a 15-year custodial sentence following a brief remand.
