Daniel Koranteng has been charged with robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery. His alleged accomplice is still at large.

A 35-year-old man described by police as a self-acclaimed businessman has appeared before an Accra Circuit Court, accused of robbing a public servant of her Samsung Fold 4 smartphone during an early-morning attack at Tse-Addo.

Daniel Koranteng has been charged with robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery. His alleged accomplice is still at large. Koranteng denies the allegations.

The court, presided over by Mrs Susana Eduful, granted him bail set at GH¢100,000. The case has been adjourned to 28 January 2026.

Prosecutors say the complainant, civil servant Portia Amoah, had left her home for a walk at about 6:45 a.m. on 14 October 2025 when she was approached near the Tse-Addo roundabout by two men travelling in an army-green Toyota Highlander.

Investigators believe the vehicle — a rented 4×4 with registration number GE 9134-25 — had its number plates removed to disguise it as an unregistered car for a planned robbery spree across the city.

Koranteng was allegedly seated in the front passenger seat while his accomplice drove.

As they pulled up beside the complainant, the men reportedly asked her for directions. When she approached to assist, Koranteng allegedly commented on the quality of her phone before suddenly producing a shotgun and demanding she unlock it.

Shaken and fearing for her life, the complainant handed over the GH¢18,000 device.

The same vehicle is said to have been involved in another robbery earlier that day in the Spintex area. During that encounter, members of the public gave chase, forcing the suspects to speed towards Nungua Cocon Street, where the vehicle eventually crashed into a school building.

Koranteng was captured by a mob moments later, while his accomplice fled with some of the stolen items. Police intervened to prevent him from being lynched.

Video footage of the crash circulated widely on social media. The complainant recognised Koranteng in one of the clips and alerted officers at the Tse-Addo Rasta Police Post. He was subsequently taken into custody at the Baatsona Police Station.

During interrogation, Koranteng denied robbing the complainant. The police say they are actively searching for his accomplice and hope to recover the stolen phone.

The case continues.
