Dancehall star Shatta Wale has been released from the custody of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) after spending nearly two days behind bars in connection with investigations into a luxury car linked to international fraud.
According to his manager, Samuel Atuobi Baah (Sammy Flex), the artiste secured his freedom after the court slashed his bail bond from GH¢10 million to GH¢5 million, with two sureties required to justify. Under the revised conditions, Shatta Wale must also report to EOCO three times a week as investigations continue.
The Lamborghini Saga
The case revolves around a 2019 Lamborghini Urus, which EOCO seized earlier this month in a joint operation with the FBI and the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ). Investigators believe the car is tied to a US$4 million fraud scheme orchestrated by Nana Kwabena Amuah, a Ghanaian currently serving a prison sentence in the U.S.
During questioning, Shatta Wale reportedly failed to identify the seller of the car, telling investigators he purchased it “from the street.” The only paperwork he produced was a customs declaration document bearing Amuah’s name.
The musician’s detention triggered an outpouring of support from his fans, the “Shatta Movement”, who gathered outside EOCO offices chanting for his release. His eventual freedom on revised bail terms has been met with relief among supporters but has also fueled a wider national debate about celebrity lifestyles, accountability, and financial crime in Ghana.
Authorities maintain that the probe is far from over, describing the case as part of an ongoing cross-border crackdown on illicit wealth and organised crime.
