Lance Corporal Williams Mensah was released on a GH¢70,000 bail bond, with the requirement that two sureties stand in his name.

A Ghanaian soldier captured on CCTV attacking staff and a customer inside a pharmacy close to Burma Camp in Accra has been granted bail by the court.

Lance Corporal Williams Mensah was released on a GH¢70,000 bail bond, with the requirement that two sureties stand in his name.

The case drew public attention after GHOne TV broadcast video evidence of the confrontation on 29 October 2025. The recording shows Mensah in a verbal dispute with a pharmacy attendant before the altercation escalates into a physical assault. A female customer, who attempted to film the scene on her mobile phone, was also struck.

The circulation of the footage triggered a wave of public criticism, with many questioning standards of discipline within the armed forces.

Following the backlash, the Military Police moved quickly to arrest Mensah. He was detained and questioned as part of an internal and criminal investigation.

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) issued a swift statement condemning the behaviour, stressing that the institution maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy toward unprofessional conduct by its officers.

Civil society organisations joined the chorus of criticism, urging the military hierarchy to ensure that the case is handled transparently and that disciplinary rules are consistently applied.

Mensah is expected to reappear before the court as investigations continue.
