A 29-year-old unemployed woman, Augustina Adoma, has been arrested by the Accra Regional Police after allegedly setting fire to her ex-boyfriend’s belongings and stabbing him during a heated altercation in Sowutuom’s Racecourse area.

According to a police statement released on Wednesday, July 2, the incident unfolded on Thursday, June 26, 2025, when Ms. Adoma reportedly stormed the residence of her former lover, 30-year-old driver Emmanuel Otabil, without prior notice. Upon finding him with another woman, she is said to have drenched the pair with a bucket of water and snatched his Samsung phone before storming off.

Later that same day, at around 4:00 p.m., Ms. Adoma allegedly returned to Mr. Otabil’s kiosk while he was out. Using a spare key, she reportedly entered the premises and set fire to various items including a mattress, bedsheets, a carpet, and blankets.

The situation escalated when Mr. Otabil later confronted her over the destruction and demanded the return of his phone. In the middle of their dispute, Ms. Adoma allegedly grabbed a knife from a nearby orange seller and stabbed him in the chest.

Mr. Otabil was rushed to Race Course Hospital, then transferred to Lapaz Community Hospital, and finally to the University of Ghana Medical Centre where he underwent emergency surgery. He is currently recovering and responding to treatment.

Following the stabbing, police tracked down Ms. Adoma at the Tesano Police Station—where she had ironically gone to submit a medical report concerning a prior assault complaint she had filed against Mr. Otabil. Officers also recovered the stolen phone in her possession.

The Accra Regional Police Command has since launched a full investigation and issued a stern reminder to the public against resorting to violence or vengeance in domestic disputes, warning that such actions could carry severe legal consequences.
