The Office Special Prosecutor has charged suspended Juaben Municipal Chief Executive nominee, Alexander Kwabena Sarfo-Kantanka with 26 counts of corruption.

In a statement dated May 24, 2022, it indicated that Mr. Sarfo-Kantanka is facing those charges “in respect of a public election-arising out of two public elections conducted in September and November 2021 for the confirmation or otherwise of his nomination.”

He is to be arraigned before the Kumasi High Court on June 1, 2022, the statement said.

The Office of the Special Prosecutor began investigating Mr. Sarfo-Kantanka after a video emerged in November 2021, showing the Juabeng MCE nominee accusing assembly members of failing to confirm his nomination as MCE after he allegedly paid them bribes. In the video that circulated, he also demanded monies he allegedly paid members to influence their votes.

He failed two times to secure the required number of votes for his confirmation as MCE.
