Police say he was picked up while allegedly trying to dispose of the deceased’s mobile phone.

A suspect has been arrested in connection with the murder of 27-year-old car dealer Yaw Osei Ashitey Amma, whose burnt body was found in a vehicle at Atomic Junction in Accra.

The Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service said Wisdom Tetteh was arrested in Togo on April 30, 2026, through an Interpol collaboration.

Police say he was picked up while allegedly trying to dispose of the deceased’s mobile phone.

He was later handed over to Ghanaian police officers at the Aflao border and taken to the CID headquarters for further investigations.

Speaking at a press briefing, the Director-General of the CID, DCOP Lydia Yaako Donkor, said preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect allegedly lured the victim to his residence on April 6, 2026, under the pretext of buying or arranging a vehicle sale.

Investigators allege that Mr Tetteh attacked the car dealer and inflicted fatal head injuries on him.

Police further claim that the suspect later sold the deceased’s Hyundai Elantra, valued at GH¢172,000, and received GH¢18,000 as part payment.

According to DCOP Donkor, the suspect then transported the victim’s body to Atomic Junction on the Legon bypass road.

He allegedly removed the vehicle’s number plate before setting both the car and the body on fire in an attempt to destroy evidence.

The burnt body was discovered on April 7, 2026.

Police say the extent of the burns made immediate identification difficult.

Investigators therefore took DNA samples from relatives to confirm the identity of the deceased.

The suspect remains in police custody and is assisting with investigations.
