Koranteng, the managing director of ISPY Company, was arrested following joint investigations conducted by Ghanaian security agencies and the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

An Accra High Court has granted bail to Daniel Owusu Koranteng, also known as Kwasi Amakye, who is facing a provisional murder charge in connection with the 2019 killing of investigative journalist Ahmed Hussein-Suale.

Koranteng, the managing director of ISPY Company, was arrested following joint investigations conducted by Ghanaian security agencies and the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

According to court filings and police sources, analysis of phone records placed Koranteng in contact with Suale shortly before the journalist’s murder. Prosecutors also allege he was in the vicinity of the crime scene in Suale’s neighborhood on the night he was fatally shot.

At an earlier hearing before the Madina Magistrate Court, the accused confirmed having taken photographs of Suale but denied accusations that he sold those images to politician Kennedy Agyapong. Agyapong had previously aired the journalist’s pictures on live television and was accused of making inflammatory remarks that allegedly incited violence against him.

Magistrate Suzzy Nyakote had previously adjourned the case to allow for further investigations. With the latest ruling, the High Court has granted Koranteng bail while the case continues to unfold.

Ahmed Hussein-Suale, a key member of the undercover investigative group Tiger Eye PI, led by Anas Aremeyaw Anas, was gunned down in Madina in January 2019. His murder triggered widespread condemnation both locally and internationally, with sustained calls from human rights groups and press freedom advocates for justice and accountability.
