According to eyewitness accounts, the unidentified attackers invaded the school compound under the cover of darkness and opened fire inside the dormitory, fatally shooting the two teenagers.

Shock and sorrow grip Nalerigu Senior High School after two male students, Lukman and Gideon, were gunned down during a violent raid on campus Saturday night, July 26, 2025.

According to eyewitness accounts, the unidentified attackers invaded the school compound under the cover of darkness and opened fire inside the dormitory, fatally shooting the two teenagers. The assault has sent waves of fear through the student body and the wider North East Region, already on edge amid ongoing regional unrest.

Sources close to the scene suggest the attack may be tied to the long-standing Bawku conflict, raising fresh concerns over the safety of educational institutions in volatile areas.

Assembly Member for the Denugu Electoral Area, Dasmani Fuseini—who is also an uncle of one of the victims—confirmed the tragic loss and stated that the police currently have the bodies in custody, pending release to the families for burial.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has launched a full-scale investigation, as pressure mounts for improved protection in schools within conflict zones.
